Swimming in the arctic everyday, a challenge that has been growing in my head for a couple of weeks now. The people who know me close enough are well aware of my hatred towards cold water. The few times I jumped into the freezing abys of a fjord in Norway I needed at least 20 minutes of convincing. Now it's gonna be an everyday thing.

But why?

First of all it will be a great challenge to keep my mind strong, having a thing which I have to do each day keeps you active, and tuned in. It's a hurdle you have to cross before the 24 hours are up. If not, you fail.

It's also a great opportunity to get some influencing done;). Ad Vectem will need sponsors. Lot's and Looot's of sponsors. An expedition crossing every climate zone on the planet. buying a boat, getting together a crew, logistics, training, marketing... All these things need some form of support to come through. Sponsors come in many shapes and sizes, private, corporate, financial or material... but most of them need a particular thing in return. Exposure. A place to market their products, research or even themselves. now... It's a bit hard to attract a sponsor if you have 400 followers on instagram. So filming yourself jumping into ice water every day doesn't seem to far fetched anymore.

the rules

Of course this challenge must have rules. Otherwise I can't be held accountable. therefore i have set up a number of guidelines that will be followed to the letter.

Rule nr°1

Every day must be filmed and posted on that day. If this is impossible due to practical reasons, such as having no connection, exceptions can be made as long as they are posted as soon as possible

Rule nr°2

Ad vectem goes first! If during a training/ expedition i can't find water or am below the arctic circle exceptions will be made. Like this, an ice bath or a snowswim are valid alternatives. though valid efforts must be made to find a solution without breaking the rules.

Rule nr°3

Rule nr°1 and nr°2 are exceptions! not the norm. If i start curcumventing rules because I don't feel like swimming outside the challenge is over.

There you go, an overvieuw of the rules and motivations of this new challenge!
